5Remove remaining three (3) screws holding magneto stator to stator ringFigure 21 6Lift stator and free wires from slot in stator ring by lifting bundle of wires unt il wires can slip out one by one Installation1Slip individual plug lead wires into slot in stator ring Work wire bundle down into slot2Secure stator to stator ring with three (3) screws 3Attach two (2) brown wires to shorting switch on front of support plate 4Attach crankcase ground lead to stator with screwFigure 22 5Attach spark plug lead wires to spark plugs RemovalUse 13 16" deep well socket with rubber insert to protect spark plug inSUlationInspectionIn nearly every case of spark plug failure, the cause must be corrected before new or reconditioned spark plugs are installed Otherwiseservicing will be needed again in short timeEngine misfire or generally poor operation is often caused by spark plugs in poor condition or with improper gap setting The first thing to do after removing spark plug is to carefully note its condition as this is often an indictor of the ignition trouble Plugs fail for various reasons Often the porcelain insulator cracks or becomes coated with oil, carbon or other depositsThis can cause the high voltage ignition impulse to pass from the center electrode to ground without jumping the spark gapAs an engine operatesthe electrodes are gradually burned or worn away In timethe gap becomes so wide that the available ignition voltage cannot jump the gap and the engine misfires ServicingEvery 100 hours remove plugcheck condition and reset gapGood operating conditions are indicated if plug has light coating of gray or tan depositA dead whiteblistered coating could indicate overheating black (carbon) coating can indicate an "overrichfuel mixture caused by improper carburetor adjustment or faulty recirculating system
