NOTE This will pull the spool and bearing cage assembly from gear housing19Remove propeller shaft assembly as follows :
ARemove rear bevel gear from prop shaft
21 Remove pinion nut as follows: APlace 3 4" socket and torque wrench (Special Tool NoT 2998) over pinion nutBPlace spline adapter (Special Tool NoT 7848) over end of driveshaft splineCRotate driveshaft to remove pinion nutFigure 22 22Separate pinion gear from driveshaft as followsARemove gear housing from visehold gear housing and clamp driveshaft into vise with protective jaws BPull gear housing toward you to remove excess driveshaft playCUsing PLASTIC or RUBBER mallet onlystrike the area around the driveshaft counterbore (This shock should separate the spline engagement of the pinion gear and driveshaft)23 Remove driveshaft with upper bearing from gear housing Remove shims from bore in gear housingFigure 23
