Removal CAUTION
Always disconnect battery when working on engine1Disconnect battery leads 2Remove two stop nuts securing starter to upper starter bracketFigure 53Remove one screw securing lower bracket to crankcase coverFigure 5
2Connect another jumper cable to the negati ve terminal of the battery3Touch negative jumper cable to the fram of th starter motor and remove it4Pinion should move freely up and down th clutch when the negative jumper cable is on and off the starter frame5If the pinion does not move freelydisassem ble the starter motor drive and inspect it for irt damageTesting Starter Armature RotationRotate sta rte armature by hand If armature does not rotate free lybent armature or badly worn bearing may be causing it to bindDisassemble starter and inspec it for wear or damageDisassemblySTOP NUT
