Timing Method #2 -
Timing Light
1Connect timing light to No1 cylinder spark plug lead wire and to batteryArrow on clamp should point to spark plugFigure 53
2Remove screw securing ground lead to ignition coil (from distributor bracket)Figure 54 3Remove white black stripe lead from ter inal on distributor housing (to C-D unit) Figure 54 4Remove boot from coil and pull high tension lead wire from coilFigure 545Remove three (3) stop nuts securing C-D unit to studs on power head and remove C-D unit with ignition coil and bracketFigure 54
Before next step, install correct tes wheelan lower unit so that engine can be run at W.O.T(wide open throttle) 2Start engine and accelerate to W.O.TDepress button on timing light and observe al ignment of timing marks (32 mark on decal to inde mark on timing pointer) If marks are not alignedretard engine and shut engine off3Adjust control rod between towershaft and distributor to advance the timing, turn the screw to spread the endsto retardturn the screw to bring the ends closer togetherRestart engine and check timing at W.O.T Repeat above steps until 32 mark on decal lines up with index mark on timing pointer
