Measuring coil resistance: If the Coil Tester is not available, the coil can be checked for broken or badly shorted winding with hand testerHowever, hand tester can not detect layer shorts and shorts resulting from insulation breakdown under high voltageDisconnect the primary leads from the coil terminalsMeasure the primary winding resistance as follows [A]o Connect the tester between the coil terminalso Set the tester to the range, and read the testerMeasure the secondary winding resistance as follows [B]0 Remove the plug caps by turning them counterclockwise0 Connect the tester between the spark plug leads0 Set the tester to the 100 range, and read the testerIf the hand tester does not read as specified, replace the coiIWinding Resistance Primary windings 0.08 0.1 Standard: Secondary windings 3.5 4.7 ki7
If the tester reads as specified, the ignition coil windings are probably goodHowever, if the ignition system still does not perform as it should after all other components have been checked, test replace the coil with one known to be goodCheck the spark plug lead for visible damageIf the spark plug lead is damaged, replace the coil
