Measuring coil resistance: If the Coil Tester is not available, the coil can be checked for broken or badly shorted winding with hand testerHowever, hand tester can not detect layer shorts and shorts resulting from insulation breakdown under high voltageDisconnect the primary leads from the coil terminalsMeasure the primary winding resistance as follows [A]Connect the tester between the coil terminalsSet the tester to the range, and read the testerMeasure the secondary winding resistance as follows [B]Remove the plug caps by turning them counterclockwiseConnect the tester between the spark plug leadsSet the tester to the k, and read the testerIf the hand tester does not read as specified, replace the coil
