Measuring coil resistance" If the Coil Tester is not available, the coil can be checked for broken or badly shorted winding with hand testerHowever, hand tester can not detect layer shorts and shorts resulting from insulation breakdown under high voltagee Disconnect primary leads from the coil terminalsthe Measure the primary winding resistance as follows [A]12Connect the tester between the coil terminals2 Set the tester to the $1 range, and read the testerm Measure the secondary winding resistance as follows [B]2 Remove the plug caps by turning them counterclockwise2 Connect the tester between the spark plug leads1 Set the tester to the 100 fl range, and read the tester2 If the hand tester does not read as specified, replace the coil
