CLUTCHING Button To Tower Clearance Inspection
1Inspect for any clearance between spider button to towerIf clearance exists, replace all buttons and inspect surface of towersSee "Spider Removal" procedure2Remove shift weight bolts and weightsInspect the contact surface of the weightThe surface should be smooth and free of dents or gall marksInspect the weight pivot bore and pivot bolts for wear or gallingIf weights or bolts are worn or broken, replace in sets of three with new bolts
NOTE: damaged shift weight is usually caused by damaged or stuck roller in the spider assemblySee "Roller, Pin and Thrust Washer Inspection"
Bearing Inspection
1Rotate the clutch bearing in both clockwise and counterclockwise directionsThe non-braking bearing should rotate in both directions on the shaft with only slight amount of dragVerify there is no binding or rough spotsIf problems are noted continue with disassemblyButton to Tower Clearance: 000-.005"
