MAINTENANCE Battery Installation
IMPORTANT: Using new battery that has not been fully charged can damage the battery and result in shorter lifeIt can also hinder vehicle performanceFollow the battery charging procedure in Chapter 10 "Electrical" before installing the battery12345Ensure the battery is fully chargedPlace the battery in the battery holder and secure with holddown strapCoat the terminals with dielectric grease or petroleum jellyConnect and tighten the red (positive) cable firstConnect and tighten the black (negative) cable lastNote for reassembly 23Remove the cargo box assembly to access the spark plugs (see Chapter 5)Remove both spark plug caps and clean plug area so no dirt or debris can fall into engine when plugs are removed
