CLUTCHING (PVT) TROUBLESHOOTING
Situation Engine RPM below specified operating range, although engine is properly tunedProbable Cause -Wrong or broken drive clutch spring-Drive clutch shift weight too heavyRemedy -Replace with recommended spring-Install correct shift weight kit to match engine application
Erratic engine operating RPM -Belt worn unevenlythinburnt spotsduring acceleration or load variations-Driven clutch malfunction
-Driven clutch spring broken or installed in wrong -Replace spring; refer to proper installation locationhelix location-Drive clutch bindingADisassemble drive clutch; inspect shift weights for wear and free operationBClean and polish stationary shaft hub; reassemble clutch without spring to determine problem areaReplace beltInspect movable sheave for excessive bushing clearance
-Sheave face grooved-Replace the clutch-Incorrect drive clutch spring (too high spring rate)-Install correct recommended spring-Drive clutch shift weights incorrect for application -Install correct recommended shift weights(too light)Engine RPM above specified operating range-Drive clutch binding-Disassemble and clean clutch, inspecting shift weights and rollersReassemble without the spring and move sheaves through entire range to further determine probable cause-Disassemble, clean, and inspect driven clutch-Clean sheaves with denatured alcohol or brake cleaner, install new belt-Replace belt
