ENGINE 3Remove top compression ringUsing piston ring pliers: Carefully expand ring and lift it off the pistonCAUTION: Do not expand the ring more than the amount necessary to remove it from the piston, or the ring may breakBy hand: Placing both thumbs as shown, spread the ring open and push up on the opposite sideDo not scratch the ring lands
2Inspect the top of the cylinder for warpage using straight edge and feeler gaugeCylinder Warpage: .002 (.05 mm) 3Inspect cylinder for wear, scratches, or damage
