FINAL DRIVE 14Slide the joint onto the shaft splines while holding the snap ring in the face of the inner race openPush or tap the joint onto the drive shaft until it "clicks" into placePull on the joint to make sure it is securely locked in placeTap joint onto shaft

Inner Plunging JointBoot Replacement
1234Place the drive shaft in soft-jawed viseUsing side cutters, cut away and discard the boot clampsSlide the boot down the shaft and wipe the grease away from the face of the jointUsing soft-faced hammer, or brass drift, strike the inner race of the joint to drive the joint off the shaft
15Remove excess grease from the CV joint's external surfaces16Pull the boot over the joint and position the boot lips into the grooves on the joint housing and shaftMake sure the boot is not dimpled or collapsed, then slide the clamps into place17Tighten the large clamp using an appropriate clamp pliers18While pulling out on the CV shaft, fully extend the CV joint and slide straight O-ring pick or small slotted screw driver between the small end of the boot and the shaftThis will allow the air pressure to equalize in the CV boot in the position that the joint will spend most of its lifeBefore you remove your instrument, be sure the small end of the boot is in its correct location on the shaft
