ELECTRICAL Brush InspectionReplacement
1Measure resistance between starter input terminal and insulated brushesThe reading should be .3 ohms or lessRemember to subtract meter lead resistance
Remove Bolts
Sportsman 400 H.ORemove the two bolts, washers, and sealing O-RingsInspect O-Rings and replace if damaged2Measure resistance between insulated brush and starter housingReading should be infinite (OL)Inspect insulation on brush wires for damage and repair or replace as necessary
NOTE: Note the alignment marks on both ends of the starter motor casingThese marks must align during reassembly6Remove the front bracket assembly and the rear bracket assemblyRemove the shims from the armature shaft and inspect the O-rings located on the armature housingO-Rings
