ELECTRICAL Cranking Output Tests Using Peak Reading Adaptor or Volt Ohm Meter
The following peak voltage tests will measure the amount of output directly from each componentA peak reading voltmeter can be used to perform the testsA variety of peak reading adaptors are commercially available for use with the Fluke TM 77 Digital Multimeter (PV-43568) and other digital VOMs which will allow peak voltage tests to be performed accuratelyFollow the directions provided with the adaptorAll measurements are indicated in DC VoltsReadings obtained without peak reading adaptor will be significantly differentCDI Output Locate the CDI boxMake sure all stator and CDI wires are connectedRemove the CDI output wire (WhiteBlue) from the ignition coil primary terminalUsing the test table below crank the engine to check for proper CDI outputPulse Coil Output Disconnect the stator connector from the CDI boxWhile cranking the engine, test output from the pulser coilMeasure between the coil wires and compare the cranking output to the test table belowConnect Output Reading 20 Meter Leads (With VOM or Peak To: Reading Adaptor) WhiteBlue and CDI 200-400 DCV Chassis Ground Pulse Coil WhiteRed and 4.5 Volts DC (Peak Adaptor) 300 Black 0.15 Volts AC (VOM) Pulse Coil WhiteRed and 4.5 Volts DC (Peak Adaptor) 400 H.OWhite 0.15 Volts AC (VOM) Test Sportsman 300
