MAINTENANCE Drive Shaft Boot Inspection
Inspect the front and rear drive shaft boots for damage, tears, wear, or leaking greaseIf the rubber boots exhibit any of these symptoms, replace the boot(s)Refer to Chapter for drive shaft boot replacementFront Boots 456
Wheel Removal
123Position the vehicle on level surfaceStop the engine, place the transmission in gear and lock the parking brakeLoosen the wheel nuts slightlyIf wheel hub removal is required, remove the cotter key and loosen the hub nut slightlyElevate the appropriate side of the vehicle by placing suitable stand under the footrest frameRemove the wheel nuts and remove the wheelIf hub removal is required, remove the hub nut and washers
Wheel Installation
1Rear Boots 23Verify the transmission is still in gear and the parking brake is lockedInstall the wheel hub, washers, and hub nut, if previously removedPlace the wheel in the correct position on the wheel hubBe sure the valve stem is toward the outside and rotation arrows on the tire point toward forward rotationAttach the wheel nuts and finger tighten themCarefully lower the vehicle to the groundTorque the wheel nuts andor hub nut to the proper torque specification listed in the "Wheel and Hub Torque Table"If the hub nut was removed, install new cotter pin after the hub nut has been tightened
