MAINTENANCE Cylinder Leakdown Test
NOTE: This engine has built-in decompression componentsDue to the auto-decompression mechanism, cranking compression test is not an accurate measure of engine conditionA cylinder leakdown test is the best indication of engine conditionFollow the manufacturer's instructions provided with the leakdown tester to perform cylinder leakage testCylinder Leakdown Service Limit: 10 (Inspect for cause if leakage exceeds 10) NOTE: If necessary, blow debris from screen with compressed air3Inspect the screen for wear or damageReplace the arrestor if found to be worn or damaged
Valve Clearance Adjustment
Refer to page 6-13 of the "KTM EngineCarburetion" section in the back of this service manual for valve clearance adjustment procedure4
Torque retaining screw (A) to 25 inlbs(3 Nm)
Valve Clearance Specification .005" (.127 mm) Exhaust PipeSpark Arrestor WARNING
Failure to follow these warnings could result in serious personal injury or death Do not perform clean out immediately after the engine has been run, as the exhaust system becomes very hotSerious burns could result from contact with exhaust components Wear eye protection and gloves Never run the engine in an enclosed areaExhaust contains poisonous carbon monoxide gas that can cause loss of consciousness or death in very short timePeriodically clean the spark arrestor to remove accumulated carbon12Remove the retaining screw (A) and remove the arrestor (B) and reducer (C) from the end of the mufflerUse non-synthetic brush to clean the arrestor screen (D)A synthetic brush may melt if components are warm
