ELECTRICAL Starter System Test Flow Chart
Condition: Starter fails to turn motorNOTE: Make sure engine crankshaft is free to turn before proceeding with dynamic testing of starter systemA digital multitester must be used for this testNOTE: The footbrake must be compressed to the starter circuit to engageWith the tester on the VDC position, place the tesRemove battery and properly serviceter's black lead on the battery negative and the red Install fully charged shop battery to No lead on the battery positivecontinue testReading should be 12.4 or greaterYes Check voltage on both sides of circuit breaker and ignition switchThe voltage on both sides should be the sameNOTE: The ignition switch actuatedReplace the defective component
Disconnect the WhiteRed and Orange coil engagement wires from the starter solenoidConnect black tester wire to battery groundConnect red tester lead to WhiteRed harness wireTurn the ignition switch as if starting the vehicleTester should read battery voltage on WhiteRed wire
