ELECTRICAL TIMING CHECK PROCEDURE (NON-EFI MODELS)
1The ignition timing check hole is in the starter recoil magneto housingRemove the check plugStator Adjustment Remove the magneto housingRemove the flywheelLoosen the stator plate screws and adjust the stator plate positionNOTE: Moving the stator plate clockwise retards (delays) the ignition timingMoving the plate counterclockwise advances it123
NOTE: The ignition timing marks are stamped on the outside of the flywheelIgnition timing must be inspected with the engine at room temperature (6820 C)23With the transmission in neutral, start the engine and set engine speed to 5000 200 RPMDirect the timing light at the ignition timing check hole and check the ignition timingNOTE: Do not allow the engine to warm upThe timing will retard approximately when the engine is warm
