FUEL SYSTEMFUEL INJECTION
TEMPERATURE and BAROMETRIC AIR PRESSURE SENSOR (T-BAP)
Mounted on the throttle body intake, the temperature and barometric air pressure sensor (TBAP) performs two functions in one unit
THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR (TPS)
The throttle position sensor (TPS) is used to indicate throttle plate angle to the ECUMounted on the throttle body and operated directly off the end of the throttle shaft, the TPS works like rheostat, varying the voltage signal to the ECU in direct correlation to the angle of the throttle plateThis signal is processed by the ECU and compared to the internal preprogrammed maps to determine the required fuel and ignition settings for the amount of engine loadNOTE: The correct position of the TPS is established and set at the factoryDo not loosen the TPS or alter the mounting positionIf the TPS is repositioned, replaced or loosened it must be recalibrated
THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR TEST
Air passing through the intake is measured by the TBAP and relayed to the ECUThese signals, comprised of separate air temperature and barometric air pressure readings, are processed by the ECU and compared to it's programming for determining the fuel and ignition requirements during operationThe throttle position sensor (TPS) is nonserviceable itemIf it is faulty, it must be replacedIt can be tested using the following method: Set up the TPS voltage check tool, PN 2201519, according to the instructionsMake sure that the volt battery has minimum of voltsFigure 2No 'Jumps' in readout .70.99v Vdc
