MAINTENANCE To remove the battery: 1Disconnect holder strap and remove cover2Disconnect battery negative (-) (black) cable first, followed by the positive (+) (red) cableCAUTION To reduce the chance of sparks: Whenever removing the battery, disconnect the negative (black) cable firstWhen reinstalling the battery, install the negative cable last3Disconnect the vent hose4Remove the battery5Remove the filler caps and add distilled water only as needed to bring each cell to the proper levelDo not overfill the batteryFully recharge after fillingUse only distilled waterTap water contains minerals which are harmful to batteryDo not allow cleaning solution or tap water to enter the battery, as it will shorten the life of the battery6Reinstall the battery caps7Clean battery cables and terminals with stiff wire brushCorrosion can be removed using solution of one cup water and one tablespoon baking sodaRinse well with clean water and dry thoroughly8Reinstall battery, attaching positive (+) (red) cable first and then the negative (-) (black) cable9Reattach vent hose making sure it is properly routed and not kinked or pinched10Coat terminals and bolt threads with Dielectric Grease (PN 2871329)11Reinstall battery cover and holder strap.036 (0.9 mm) 5Measure gap with wire gaugeRefer to specifications for proper spark plug type and gapAdjust gap if necessary by bending the side electrode carefully(Illustration below) 6If necessary, replace spark plug with proper typeCAUTION: Severe engine damage may occur if the incorrect spark plug is used7Apply small amount of anti-seize compound to the spark plug threads8Install spark plug and torque to specificationRecommended Spark Plug: Refer to Specifications Chapter Spark Plug Torque: 14 FtLbs(19 Nm)
