ELECTRICAL Starter Reassembly
1If the brush plate has been removed, reinstall it on the starter housingNOTE: The alignment tab on the brush plate must be positioned in its slot in the starter housingStarter Motor Exploded View
Insulated Brush AssemblyStarter Housing
Install the brushes in the brush holdersEither remove the springs or use spring retainers to keep the brushes from sticking out of the holders

3If removed, reinstall armature on drive end frame4With C-ring properly positioned, slide starter housing and brush plate assembly over armature56Reinstall brush springs or remove retainersReinstall armature thrust washers, large C-ring and brush end frameNOTE: Use non-petroleum grease sparingly in the bushingTest starter operation before reinstalling on CAUTION: Avoid excessive free enginespinning which will cause internal starter damageFrame
