ELECTRICAL Battery Service CAUTION: When working with batteries, always wear safety glasses or face shield and protective glovesBattery electrolyte contains sulfuric acid and is poisonous! Serious burns can result from contact with the skin, eyes or clothingPreparing New Battery For Service

To assure maximum service life and performance from battery, it must have the correct initial servicingPerform the following steps to properly service new batteryNOTE: Do not service the battery unless it will be put into regular service within 30 days1Remove the vent plug from the vent fitting2Fill the battery with electrolyte to the upper level marks on the case3Set the battery aside and allow it to cool and stabilize for 30 minutes4Add electrolyte to bring the level back to the upper level mark on the caseNOTE: This is the last time that electrolyte should be addedIf the level becomes low after this point, add only distilled water5Charge the battery at 1110 of its amphour ratingExamples: 110 of amp battery.9 amp; 110 of 14 amp battery1.4 amp; 110 of 18 amp battery1.8 amp (recommended charging rates)6Check the specific gravity of each cell with hydrometer to assure each has reading of 1.270 or higherBattery Testing
