ENGINES Recoil 7Slowly remove spring tension by rotating reel clockwise until all tension is removed8Remove mm bolt and spring washer securing friction plateRemove friction plateInspect plate for wear or damageInspect plate friction spring for wear, damage, and proper tensionThe spring should fit tightly on friction plate9Remove ratchet pawl with spring and inspectReplace spring or ratchet pawl if worn, broken, or damaged
10Slowly and carefully remove reel from recoil housing making sure the spring remains in the housingInspect the reel hub and bushing for wear11Unwind rope and inspect for cuts or abrasions12Inspect drive tab on hub return spring for damageTo remove hub return spring, hold outer coils in place with one hand and slowly remove spring one coil at time from the inside out
