ENGINES Recoil Reassembly, Cont8If the recoil spring was removed, reinstall it in its recess in the flywheel housingThe spring should spiral counterclockwise toward the center9Grease spring with Polaris low temperature grease10Install recoil spring retaining plate11Grease and install spring hook, making sure it properly engages the spring end12Install ratchet friction ring and friction spring assemblyThe friction spring should engage the bent tab on the recoil spring retaining plateThe "L" on the friction ring should be positioned as shown in the photo at right13Grease the center hole and seal in the flywheel housing14Install ratchet pawl bracketThe alignment pin and the square drive on the bracket shaft should properly align in the spring hook15While holding the bracket tight against the spring hook, flip the flywheel housing over and thread the reel onto the pawl bracket shaft16Clamp the ratchet pawl bracket in the corner of the jaws of viseFirmly hand tighten the reel17If the rope was removed, or if new rope is being installed, attach one end of the rope to the reel, pass the other end of the rope through the guide in the reel housing and attach it to the rope handle18Install the rope housing over the reel19Holding the flywheel housing with one hand, rotate the rope housing clockwise until the rope is completely re-wound20Rotate the housing three more turns and reinstall bolts21Reinstall pawl return spring22Check recoil and ratchet operation23When reinstalling assembly onto engine, use Loctite 515 Gasket Eliminator between the flywheel housing and crankcase 7.53
