ENGINES Oil Pump End Play Adjustment The oil pump is positive displacement type pumpWhenever the oil pump, oil pump bushing, or crankcase are replaced, the end play clearance must be checkedA minimum of .008" (.02 cm) is recommended between the oil pump boss and the bushing in the crankcaseIf pump gear end play is excessive, noticeable engine noise will occur at idle

1Measure distance from pump shoulder, to pump, to crankcase mating surfaceRecord this readingInstall pump gear thrust washer, pump gear, and pump bushing into crankcaseMake sure parts are completely seatedMeasure the distance from the pump bushing to the crankcase pump seating surfaceRecord this readingSubtract the measurement recorded in step from the measurement recorded in step 3The difference between these two measurements is the end play the pump bushings will have without spacersAdd spacers to adjust end play to .008" .016" (.02.04 cm)4
