ENGINES PistonCylinder Clearance If the pistoncylinder clearance measures greater than that in the chart for standard bore, it will be necessary to oversize the cylinderThis may be done either by boring or honingFor oversize honing, always wet hone using honing oil and coarse roughing stoneHone until check with new piston indicates you are within .003 (.08 mm) of the clearance recommendedComplete the sizing with fine grit stones to provide the proper cross-hatch finish and clearanceCAUTION: It is important that the cylinder be thoroughly cleaned after honing to remove all grindings which could

cause piston or cylinder damageWash the cylinder in solvent; then in hot soapy water; rinse; blow dry; and oil lightlyMeasure the cylinder for taper and out-of-round with telescoping gauge or dial bore gaugeMeasure in two different directions (front to back and side to side) on three different levels (12H down from top, in the middle, and 12H up from bottom)
