ENGINES Crankshaft and Crankcase Reassembly Correct crankshaft to crankcase end play is .008".016" (.02.04 cm)End play is adjusted by adding or subtracting spacer spacers from between the inner PTa end bearing and the crank wheelTwo different thickness spacers are available: PN 3083629.008" (.02 cm); and PN 3083630.004" (.01 cm)45Measure width of main bearing outer races with bearings positioned as shownRecord readingAdd recorded readings from steps 1, 2, and 3Measure crankcase half to determine internal bearing seating surface lengthPlace piece of flat stock on the PTa side case half mating surface and measure from this surface to the bearing seating surface shoulderSubtract flat stock thickness and record readingMeasure magneto side case half using the same procedureRecord reading, making sure to subtract the thickness of the flat stockAdd the readings from steps and and subtract this number from the reading recorded in step 4The result is the amount of crankshaft end playIf adjustment is required, determine the amount of spacers needed to achieve proper end playInstall spacers followed by bearings9
