PVT SYSTEM Clutch AlignmentOffset 5Measure belt length with tape measure around the outer circumference of the beltBelts which measure longerthan nominal length may require driven shimming or engine adjustment for longer center distance to obtain proper belt deflectionBelts which measure shorter than nominal length may require driven shimming or shorter center distanceRemember, proper belt deflection is the desired goal- not specific center distance6Replace belt if worn past the service limitBelts with thin spots, burn marks, etc should be replaced to eliminate noise, vibration, or erratic PVT operationSee Troubleshooting Chart at the back of this chapter for possible causesNOTE: If new belt is installed, check belt deflectionInstall so part numbers are easily read
Clutch Alignment 1Install offsetalignment tool as shown2With tool touching rear of driven clutch inner sheave, the distance at point "A" should be 18"If the distance is greater than 316" or less than 116", clutch alignment must be adjusted as follows: 3Remove drive and driven clutchSee PVT Disassembly, page 6.114Remove PVT inner cover5Loosen the upper and lower front engine mounts, and the slotted rear mount6Adjust engine until distance at point "A" is 18" greater than point "B"7Measure belt deflection and offset and adjust if necessaryNOTE: Minor adjustments can be made by adding shims between the frame and front lower left engine mount to increase the distance at point "A"If shim is present, it can be removed to decrease the distance at point "A"Major adjustments must be made by loosening all engine mounts and repositioning engine in the frame,-1_ _'- -
