FINAL DRIVE SYSTEM SERVICE Demand Roller Clutch Inspection, 1989 to Current 1Disassemble the roller clutch and thoroughly clean all partsCAUTION: Do not remove the garter springIf the spring is removed it will become over will require stressed and replacementInspect roll cage sliding surface (A)This surface must be clean and free of nicks, burrs or scratchesUse small file or emery cloth to remove any imperfectionsInspect rollers (3)The rollers must slide up and down freely within the roller cage sliding surfacesWithout removing the garter spring, inspect the coils for consistencyIf coils are not consistent, cut the old spring with side cutter to remove it, and replace it1Armature Plate NOTE: Armature plate is positioned with tabs in round holes of cage2Roll Cage 3Roller 6Engagement Cam 4Garter Spring 7Key 5Spacer, 1993Newer Tabs go into the round holes

WARNING: 1989 to current all wheel drive models have heavier garter spring than previous 4x4sThese springs are very similar in appearance to those used on earlier modelsIf the old, lighter springs were installed on machine requiring the heavier spring the front wheels may engage at high speed, possibly resulting in serious injury or deathDo not mix these springsCheck springs before installationCheck removed spring wire diameter, verify new spring to ensure proper spring replacement has been madeRefer to next page for spring identification
