BRAKE SERVICE Type II Rear Hydraulic Caliper Service (Cont'd) 24Thoroughly wipe the piston and caliper dry25Pressurize the brake system for approximately one minuteNOTE: The parking brake may be used to hold the pressure26Check for "low pressure" leaks by lightly pumping the handle to 10 times27Force pads apart and reassemble caliper to discTorque the two retainer bolts to 15 ftIbs(2.1 kgm)28Reconnect brake rod linkage29Place transmission in neutralAdjust foot brake by tightening adjuster bolt until brake pads rub on the discThen back off the adjuster bolt approximately 12 turn to allow free disc rotation30Tighten jam nut and recheck disc movementNOTE: small amount of intermittent disc rubbing is permissible31Check foot pedal travelIf movement is excessive, adjust as necessary32Fill master cylinder with DOT brake fluid (PN 2870990) and reinstall cover with new cover gasketNOTE: Type cylinders should be filled to 18" (.3 cm) from the top; Type" cylinders should be filled to 14" (.6 cm) from the topType III cylinders should be filled to 14" -516" (.6-.8 cm) from the top33Check lever travelIf soft or spongy, re-bleed system34Field test unit for proper braking action before putting into serviceInspect for fluid leaks and firm brakes
