ELECTRICAL SYSTEM 17-11 Precautions
There are number of important precautions that are musts when servicing electrical systemsLearn and observe all the rules belowDo not reverse the battery lead connectionsThis will burn out the diodes in the electrical partsAlways check battery condition before condemning other parts of an electrical systemA fully charged battery is must for conducting accurate electrical system testsThe electrical parts should never be struck sharply, as with hammer, or allowed to fall on hard surfaceSuch shock to the parts can damage themTo prevent damage to electrical parts, do not disconnect the battery wires or any other electrical connections when the main switch is on, or while the engine is runningBecause of the large amount of current, never keep the main switch turned to the start position when the starter motor will not turn over, or the current may burn out the starter motor windingsTake care not to short the wires that are directly connected to the battery positive (+) terminal to the chassis groundTroubles may involve one or in some cases all itemsNever replace defective part without determining what CAUSED the failureIf the failure was brought on by some other item or items, they too must be repaired or replaced, or the replacement part will soon fail againMake sure all connectors in the circuit are clean and tight, and examine wires for signs of burning, fraying, etcPoor wires and bad connections will affect electrical system operationMeasure coil and winding resistance when the part is cold (at room temperature)Color Codes: BK: Black BL: Blue BR: Brown CH: Chocolate DG: Dark Green G: Green GY: Gray LB: Light Blue LG: Light Green O: Orange P: Pink PU: Purple R: Red W: White Y: Yellow
