5-6 ENGINE TOP END Cylinder Head
Cylinder Compression Measurement

Tilt up the cargo bed.the engine so that the engine oil beup Thoroughly warmand the cylinder wall will help seal comtween the piston
pression as it does during normal runningStop the engine, remove the spark plugs, and attach compression gauge [A] firmly into the one spark plug holeUsing the starter motor, turn the engine over with the throttle fully open until the compression gauge stops rising; this is the highest compression reading obtainableCylinder Compression Usable Range: 000 520 kPa (10.2 15.5 kgfcm, 145 220 psi) 490 rmin (rpm)

Repeat the measurement to the other cylinderProblem Cylinder compression higher than usable range

The following table should be consulted if the obtainable compression reading is not within the usable rangeDiagnosis Carbon accumulation on piston and cylinder head, and in combustion chamber possibly due to damaged valve stem oil seal andor damaged piston oil rings Incorrect cylinder head gasket thickness Gas leakage around cylinder head Remedy (Action) Remove the carbon deposits and replace damaged parts if necessary
