17-34 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Ignition System
Ignition Coil Primary Peak Voltage Inspection NOTE
OBe sure the battery is fully charged Remove the spark plug cap (see Spark Plug Removal), but do not remove the spark plug Measure the primary peak voltage as followsOConnect commercially peak voltage adapter [A] to the hand tester [B) (250 DC range)Install the needle adapters [C] on the peak voltage adapter leadsSpecial ToolsHand Tester: 57001-1394 Needle Adapter Set: 57001-1457 Peak Voltage Adapter: 57001-1415 Type: KEK-54-9-B
Olnsert the needle adapter inside the seal of the GW (front) or BLw (rear) lead in the igniter connector [D) until the needle reaches the terminal in the connectorOlnstall new spark plug [E) into the spark plug cap, and ground it to the engine[F) Ignition Coil
To avoid extremely high voltage shocks, touch the spark plugs or tester connections Turn the ignition switch ONrotate the engine for seconds with the transmission in neutral to measure the primary peak voltage Repeat the measurements times for one ignition coilIgnition Coil Primary Peak Voltage Standard: 100 or more
