12-26 FINAL DRIVE Front Axle
Front Axle Removal
Drain t.he front final gear case oil (see Front Final Gear Case Oil Change in Periodic Maintenance chapter) Remove: Front Wheel (see Wheel Removal in WheelsTires chapter) Inner Cover Front [A] (see Inner Cover Front and Front Lower Shroud Removal in Frame chapter) Knuckle Joint Bolt [B] Remove the knuckle joint [C] from the knuckle [0] Pull the front axle [A] in straight line out of the front final gear case
Front Axle Installation
Wipe the old grease off the splines of the axle and the gear case oil seal Visually inspect the splines of the axle If they are badly worn or chippedreplace the axle with new one Apply molybdenum disulfide grease to the axle splines Apply grease to the gear case oil seal Insert the left axle so that the teeth [A] fit in the grooves [B] Tap [A] the end of the front axle lightly and install the front axle
