13-8 BRAKES Brake Fluid

A WARNING
When working with he disc brake, observe the precautions listed below1Never reuse old brake fluid2Do not use fluid from container that has been left unsealed or that has been open fo lon time 3Do not mix two types and bra nd of flu id for use in the brakeThis lowers the brake flu id boiling point and could cause the brake to be ineffectiveIt may also cause the rubber brake parts to deterio ra te4Don't leave the reservoir cap off for an length of time to avoid moisture contaminati on of the flu id5Don't change the fluid in the rain or hen strong wind is blowing 6Except for the disc pads and disc, use only disc brake fluid, isopropyl alcohol, or ethyl alcohol for cleaning brake partsDo not use any other fluid for cleaning these partsGasoline, engi ne oil, or any other petroleum distillate will cau se deterioration of the rubber partsOil spilled on any part will be difficult to wash off com pletely and will eventually deteriorate the rubber used in the disc brake7When handl ing the disc pads or disc, be careful that no disc brake fl uid or any oil gets on them Clean off any fluid or oil that inadvertently gets on the pads or disc with high-flash point solventDo not use one wh ich will leave an oily residue Replace the pads with new ones if they cannot be cleaned satisfactorily8Bra ke flu id quickly ruins painted surfacesany sp illed fluid should be com pletely washed away immediately9If any of the brake line fitting or the bleed valve is opened at any time, th AIR MUST BE BLED FROM THE BRAKE LIN E
