Pinion Gear Unit Disassembly
RemovePinion Gear Unit (see Front Final Gear Case Disassembly) Pry open the staking of the pinion gear bea ring holder nut with small chisel Hold the pinion gear unit [A) with the pi nion gear holder [8] in vi seand remove the pinion gear bearing holder nut [C] Special ToolPinion Gear Holder: 57001-1 485
Remove the ball bearing only if requ iredSpecial ToolBearing Puller: 57001-135
Pinion Gear Unit Assembly
OThe pinion gear and ring gear are lapped as set in the factory to get the best tooth contactThey must be replaced as set Visually inspect the bearing for abrasion, color change, or other dam ageIf there is any doubt as to the condition of bearingreplace the bearing Be sure to check and adjust the bevel gear ba cklash and tooth contact, when any of the backlash-related parts are replaced (see Front Final Bevel Gear Adjustmen t) Press the bearing on the pinion gear until it is bottomed
