If runout at either location exceeds the service limit, align the crankshaft so that runout is within the service limitsIn the case of horizontal misalignment, strike the projecting crankshaft half with plastic, soft lead, or brass hammer as shownRecheck the runout and repeat the process until the runout is within service limitsVertical misalignment is corrected either by driving wedge in between the crank halves, or by squeezing the crank halves in vise, depending on the nature of the misalignmentIn the case of both horizontal and vertical misalignment, correct the horizontal misalignment firstRecheck big end side clearance after aligning crankshaft (see Connecting Rod Big End Side Clearance)
