Primary and Secondary Gear Damage
Visually inspect the teeth on the primary and secondary gears If heavy damage is found, replace the damaged gearIf light damage is found, repair it with an oil-stone
Gear Backlash
Remove the right engine cover.Set dial gauge [A] against the teeth on one gear, and move [8] the gear back and forth while holding [C] the other gear steadyThe difference between the highest and the lowest gauge readings is the amount of backlashIf the amount of backlash exceeds the service limit, replace both gearsGear Backlash Standard: Service Limit:
