8-12 CRAN KSHAFT ITRANSMISSION
Crankshaft
Crankshaft Removal -Split the crankcase (see Crankcase Splitting)-Remove the transmission-Remove the crankshaft from the right crankcase half
Crankshaft Installation Notes -Fit the crankshaft assembly into the right crankcase using crankshaft installing jig (special tool) inserted between the flywheels opposite the connecting rod big end-This special tool is easily adjustable to fit in any gap between the' flywheelsInstall the crankshaft as follows
-Constantly check the alignment of the two crankcase halves, and the positions of the transmission shafts, reverse shat, and shift drumThe front and rear of the crankcase must be pushed together evenly-Check to see that the crankshaft, drive shaft, reverse shaft, balancer shaft and output shaft all turn freely (in the neutral position)If the crankshaft will no turn, probably the crankshaft is not centered; tap the appropriate end of the crankshaft with plastic mallet to reposition it-Spinning the output shaft, shift the transmission through all the gears to make certain there is no binding and that all the gears shift properly
