ELECTRIC STARTER
TROUBLESHOOTING
NOTE: The starter motor should operate only when the transmission is in neutral Check the following items before troubleshooting the system- Blown fuse (15A)Battery and starter motor cables for loose connectionBattery discharged Starter motor will not turn 1Starter Relay Switch Operation Inspection Check the operation of the starter relay switch (page 19-11)
Does the starter relay click?
YES NOGO TO STEP 2- GO TO STEP 3
2Starter Motor Test Check operation of the starter motor by temporarily connecting it directly to the vehicle battery
Does the starter motor turn?
YES NOPoorly connected starter motor cable Faulty starter relay switch (page 19-12)Faulty starter motor (page 19-5)
3Relay Coil Input Line Inspection Check the relay coil input line (page 19-12)
Is there battery voltage?
YES NOGO TO STEP 4- Faulty ignition switch (page 20-5) Faulty starter switch (page 20-7) Loose or poor contact of related connector terminal Open circuit in wire harness
