ELECTRIC STARTER
SERVICE INFORMATION
GENERAL
Always turn the ignition switch to OFF before servicing the starter motorThe moto could suddenly start, causing serious injury The sta rt er motor can be serviced with the engine in the frame When checking the starter system, always follow the steps in the troubleshooti ng (page 19-4) weak battery may be unable to turn the starter motor quickly enough, or supply adequate ignition current If the current is kepI flowing th rough the starter moto to turn it while the engine is not cranking over, the starter motor may be damaged Starter clutch servicing (page 11-8) Ignition switch inspection (page 20-5) Starter switch inspection (page 20-7) Gea pOSition switch servicing (page 20-9)
