IGNITION SYSTEM
SERVICE INFORMATION
GENERAL
Some electrical components may be damaged if terminals or connectors are connected or disconnected while the ignition switch is ON and current is present When servicing the ignition system, always follow the checks in the troubleshooting chart (page 19-4), This vehicle's Ignition Control Module (leM) is built into the ECM The ignition timing cannot be adjusted since the ECM is factory preset The ECM may be damaged if droppedAlso, if the connector is disconnected when curren is flowing, the excessive voltage may damage the ECMAlways turn off the ignition switch before servicing faulty ignition system is often related to poor connectionsCheck those connections before proceeding Use spark plug of the correct heat range Using spark plug with an incorrect heat range can damage the engine Refer to inspection for the ignition switch !page 218!
