TIE-ROD AND JOINT BOOT (After '07)
Check the tie-rod joint nuts fo loosenessCheck the ball joint boots of the tie-rod for ters or othe damageCheck for looseness of the tie-rod ball joints or bearings by grabbing each front wheel side to side with the wheels on the ground If ny looseness is noted, inspect the following-
tie-rod (page 13-43) hub or knuckle bearing (page 13-(7)
STEERING SHAFT HOLDER BEARING
Make sure the cables do not m!erfer8 With the rotation of the handlebar
Raise the front wheels off the ground and support the veh icle secu rely using floor jack or other safety support toolCheck that the handlebar moves freely from side to sideRemove the floor jack or other safety support toolCompare the req ired steering orce with the engine runn ing and with the engine stoppedIf the required steering force is the same, check the EPS syst em (page 24-2) If the handlebar moves unevenly, binds, or has horizontal or vertical movement, inspect the steering shaft holder bushing and bearing (page 13-29)
