ELECTRIC STARTER
SERVICE INFORMATION
GENERAL
Always turn the ignition switch to OFF before servicing the starter motorThe motor could suddenly start, causing serious injury The sta rter motor can be serviced with the engine in the frame When checking the starter system, always fo ll ow the steps in the troubleshooting (page 18-4) weak battery may be unable to turn the starter motor quickly enough, or supply adequate ignition current If the current is kept flowing th rough the starter motor to turn it while the eng ine is not cranking over, the starter motor may be damaged For st arter clutch service, see page 11-9 See section 19 for fo ll owing component inspections:ig nition switch (page 19-6)starter switch (page 19-6)neutral switch (page 19-9)clutch switch (page 19-7)
