SERVICE INFORMATION
GENERAL
Some electrical components may be damaged if terminals or connectors are connected or disconnected while the ignition switch is ON and current is presentWhen servicing the ignition system, always follow the checks in the troubleshooting on page 19-4This vehicle's Ignition Control Module (ICM) is built into the ECMThe ignition timing cannot be adjusted since the ECM is factory presetThe ECM may be damaged if droppedAlso, if the connector is disconnected when current is flowing, the excessive voltage may damage the ECMAlways turn off the ignition switch before servicingA faulty ignition system is often related to poor connectionsCheck those connections before proceedingUse spark plug of the correct heat rangeUsing spark plug with an incorrect heat range can damage the engineFor ignition switch inspection, see page 21-7For engine stop switch inspection, see page 21-8For ignition pulse generator (alternator stator) removalinstallation, see page 11-7
