GENERAL
Perform the gear co ntact pattern and backlash inspec :ion whenever you replace the bea rings, gears or gear caseThe ext ension lines from the gear engagement surfaces should intersect at one poin Protect the gear case ith shop towel or soft jaws wh ile holding it in viseDo not clamp it too tight as it could damage the gear case When using the lock nu wrench, use deflecting team type torque wrench 20 inches longThe lock nut wrench inc reases the torque wrench 's leverage, so the torque IIIrench reading will be less than he torque actually appl ied to the lock nutThe specificatio given is the actua torque pplied the lock nU lnot the reading on the torque wrench Do not overtigh ten the lock nutThe specif icat ion later inhe text gives both actual an ind icated Replace the ring and pinion gears as set
