SERVICE INFORMATION
GENERAL
Some electrical components may be damaged if terminals or connectors are connected or disconnected while the ignition switch is ON and current is presentWhen servicing the ignition system, always follow the steps in the troubleshooting on page 18-2The ignition timing cannot be adjusted since the ignition control module (ICM) is factory presetThe ICM may be damaged if droppedAlso, if the connector is disconnected when current is flowing, the excessive voltage may damage the ICMAlways turn off the ignition switch before servicingA faulty ignition system is often related to poor connectionsCheck those connections before proceedingUse spark plug of the correct heat rangeUsing spark plug with an incorrect heat range can damage the engineFor ignition switch and engine stop switch inspection, see section 20For ignition pulse generator (alternator stator) removalinstallation, see section 10
