FRONT WHEELSUSPENSIONSTEERING
TIRE REPAIR
NOTE: Use the manufacturer's instructions for the tire repair kit you are usingIf your kit does not have instructions, use the procedures provided hereCheckthe tire for puncturing objectsChalk mark the punctured area and remove the punctu ri ng objectInspectand measure the injuryTire repairs for injuries lager than 15 mm (58 in) should be section repairSection repairs should be done by professional tire repair shopIf the injury is smaller than 15 mm (58 in)proceed with the repair as described hereInstall rubber plug into the injury as follows: Apply cement to plug inserting needle and work the needle into the injury to clean and lubricate itDothis three timesDo not lelthe cement dry
Insert and center rubber plug through the eye of the inserting needleApply cementto the rubber plugPush the inserting needle with plug into the injury until the plug is slightly above the tireTwist the needle and remove it from the tire; the plug will stay inthetireTrim the plug mm (14 in) above the tire surfaceRepeatthe above procedure if the puncture is largeDo not use more than two plugs per injuryAllow the repair to dryDrying time will vary with air temperatureRefer to the tire repair kit manufacturer's recommendationsInflate the tire and test the seal by dabbing small amount of cement around the plugEscaping air will cause bubble in the cementIf there is leakage, remove the tire (page 12-7) and apply cold patch to the inside of the tire as describedIf plug has been inserted, trim it even with the inner tire surfaceTemporarily place rubber patch that is at leasttwice the size of the puncture over the injuryMake mark around the patch, slightly larger than the patch itselfRough the area marked inside the tire with tire buffer or wire brushClean the rubber dust from the buffed area
