ELECTRIC STARTER
TROUBLESHOOTING
NOTE: The starter motor should operate only when the transmission is in neutralCheck the following items before troubleshooting the system- Blown fuse (15A)Battery and starter motor cables for loose connectionBattery discharged
Starter motor does not turn
Check the starter relay switch operationYou should hear the "CLICK" when the starter switch button is depressed (page 19-7)
"CLICK" heard
Apply battery voltage to the starter motor directly and check the operationNormal
"CLICK" not heard
Poorly connected motor cable Faulty starter relay switch (page 19-7)
Abnormal
Faulty starter motor (page 19-3)
Check the neutral indicator tu nction
Abnormal
Faulty neutralreverse or gear position switch (page 20-18 or page 21-29) Loose neutralreverse or gear position switch connector Faulty ignition switch (page 20-17)
