FRONT DRIVING MECHANISM DIFFERENTIAL CASE ASSEMBLY NOTE: When the bearing, gear set and or gear case has been replaced, check the tooth contact pattern (page 15-18) and gear backlash (page 15-13) Install the proper ring gear spacers onto the differential assembly'98- '01 SHOWN: DIFFERENTIAL ASSEMBLY

SPACERS Apply liquid sealantto the mating surface ofthe gear case coverNOTEKeep dust and di rt out of the differential caseInstall the differential assembly with the spacers into the differential caseIt is important to turn he pinion while tightening the boltsIf the ring gear shim is too thickthe gears will lock after only light tightening

Apply locki ng agent to the threads of the 10 mm boltsTighten the cover bolts in two or three steps until the cover evenly touches the differential caseThen, while rotating the drive pinion, tighten the bolts to the specified torque in two or three steps in crisscross pattern TORQUE: 10 mm bolt: 49 Nm (5.0 kgf.m, 36 Ibf.ftj mm bolt: 25 Nm (2.6 kgfm, 19 Ibf.ft) CAUTION:
